Location: Washington, DC

Today, Representative Leonard Boswell announced that the Department of Justice has awarded over $1.6 million in Edward Byrne Justice Assistance Grants (JAG) to local governments in the 3rd Congressional District. The funding was included in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (the Stimulus Bill) which President Obama signed on February 17th.

"This funding will greatly help local efforts in fighting crime," said Boswell. "I'm pleased that the Obama Administration is getting these funds out the door in a timely manner so that our local governments will be able to support their efforts in preventing and controlling crime."

JAG funds can be used for state and local initiatives, technical assistance, training, personnel, equipment, supplies and information systems for community corrections; drug treatment programs; prosecution and court programs; and prevention and education programs.
